5 Reasons Why a Consistent Skincare Routine is Important

Your skincare routine now will contribute a lot to your beautiful and healthy skin even 30 years from now. Personalize a skincare routine, follow it daily and you will reap good results! Here are 5 reasons why you should take the time to follow a daily skincare routine.

1. Beautiful skin takes time

Let’s be honest. You won’t achieve more youthful looking skin overnight. Your skin will need time and a consistent routine to give it the nourishment it needs to look its best. This is why a daily skin care routine is important!

Customize a regimen for your skin’s needs and make sure that you do it daily. Consistency and patience is the key! Take time each day to show your skin love by implementing a skincare routine and you are well on your way to achieving radiant and gorgeous skin.

2. We have different skin

You may know someone with beautiful skin but doesn’t have a skincare routine at all. Lucky them for having great DNA! Unfortunately, that’s not the reality for most of us. Different skin types and a lot of factors affect our skin health which explains why our skin’s maintenance level is not the same as others.

Put in the extra effort to keep your skin healthy and nourished by doing a personalized skincare routine daily. It’s worth it!

3. We shed skin cells daily

The outermost layer of our skin constantly changes because the older cells that we see on the surface make way for the newer skin cells from the lower layers. In fact, you lose millions of dead skin cells every day and you leave a trail of shedding skin a.k.a. dust everywhere you go.

This means that the healthy and vibrant skin you have today can instantly look dull and tired tomorrow as your skin cells get ready to shed and fall off. Maintaining a constant skincare routine will help maintain your skin’s radiance so you can look your best always.

4. Prevention is easier and cheaper

Taking good care of your skin health daily will save you money in the long run. Skin problems like deep wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, or other skin issues can be prevented with a daily skin care routine and can prevent costly trips to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon in the future.

5. It boosts your confidence

Your face is the first part of your body that others look at and having lovely skin to show off will make you feel good about yourself. It doesn’t even matter what you wear or if you’re having a bad hair day. Great skin can make a big difference in your appearance! Make sure that you are consistent in your skin care routine to keep your skin looking its best all year round.

WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE?

Now that you know the importance of a regular skincare routine, you should also know which skin care products comprise a healthy routine. Here are the products that should be in your skincare routine and the things that you need to look out for in picking the right one for you.

1. Facial Cleanser

First off, you need the right cleanser to wash off all the oil, dirt and makeup that has been sitting on your face all day. And it’s important that you use a product that is intended for your face — a bar of soap or body wash will most likely be too harsh for the delicate skin on your face.

A lot of skin cleansers and soaps can wash away our natural oils, causing unwanted dryness and irritation. A tight squeaky clean feeling right after cleansing is a red flag and this means that you have stripped away your skin’s natural protective barrier and have left your skin dry and vulnerable to the environment.

Instead, look for a gentle cleanser like the YEOUTH Vitamin C Facial Cleanser to fight the most stubborn dirt and oil without stripping your skin of its natural moisture.

2. Toner

A toner needs to be applied right after cleansing to recalibrate the skin and rev up its protective barrier. They contain ingredients that replenish the skin of its lost moisture and nutrients. This soothes the skin and readies it for the following skincare products in your routine.

Choose a toner that is pH-balanced. Like the YEOUTH Balancing Facial Toner, it should have a slightly acidic pH that falls between 5-6. This is the skin’s normal pH level and an excellent toner should help restore the skin’s natural pH after cleansing.

3. Serum

If you want to go the extra mile, you can add a skin serum to your daily skincare routine. Serums are highly-concentrated, lightweight formulas that penetrate deeply into the skin therefore effectively addressing your skin problems.

Among all skincare products, serum’s are your best bet in doing what they claim to do since they are designed to absorb quickly and penetrate deeper to deliver high concentrations of active ingredients right into the skin cells.

4. Moisturizer

The biggest beauty tip that we always hear is to moisturize. Religiously applying moisturizer after cleansing will prevent your skin from drying out, keeping it nourished, smooth and hydrated.

When choosing a moisturizer, look for one that is best for your skin type. One of the mistakes people make when it comes to moisturizers is that they don’t use a product that fits the type of skin they have. For people with oily skin, it is best to look for lightweight moisturizers that are oil-free. For those who have dry skin, thick hydrating creams or ointments can help lock in long-lasting moisture more effectively.

5. Sunscreen

Always use sunscreen! It will protect you from the harmful UV rays of the sun which is the number one cause of wrinkles, uneven skin tone, skin sagging and other signs of skin aging.

Look for a sunscreen that will protect you against both the UVA and UVB rays of the sun and apply it to exposed parts of your body every day, even when it’s cloudy or cold outside.

6. Exfoliant

An extra skincare product that you might want to add to your skincare routine is an exfoliant. This can be used once or twice a week to help get rid of skin buildup and improve the skin’s texture and appearance.

There are two types: physical and chemical exfoliants. Physical or manual exfoliators are the classic face scrubs that contain small particles that buff away the top layer of dead skin cells while chemical exfoliators are compounds that break the bonds of the upper layer of the skin and effectively removes the dull and dead skin that you want to get rid off.

Results from physical exfoliation are often immediate but they can be too harsh and irritating for our gentle facial skin. This is why most dermatologists recommend chemical exfoliants over face scrubs to prevent skin damage and preserve the protective barrier of the skin.

Consistency is the key when it comes to skincare. Real results will not show up overnight so be patient and stick to your skincare routine daily. It’s the only way that you will achieve real, visible results!
