Puffy Eyes: What Can You Do?

Posted on August 31, 2016 by Jane Young | 3 comments

Puffy eyes - it seems like everyone we know has woken up with puffy, swollen eyes at one point. There are others who experience eye swelling only after a late night then gradually subsides as the day progresses. There are some unfortunate few that have it worse in the morning, and never goes away.

Because of this universal demand, nearly every skincare company manufactures products for occasional or chronic puffy eyes. What can you do to minimize its causes? Let’s explore further.

The Top 10 Culprits for Puffy Eyes

More often than not, puffy eyes are caused by allergic reaction, fluid retention, inflamed skin due to irritation, some fat pads distended on the eye area, or a combo of all these. The following are some of the causes of puffy eyes and some corrective measures you can do, aside from regular application of an eye serum, cream, or gel.

1. Diet - a high-salt diet and alcohol consumption causes water retention and makes the eye more puffy. In this case, puffiness can linger throughout the day. To resolve this moderate, or eliminate your alcohol consumption altogether, limit your intake of processed foods and sodium, and eat a diet of rich anti-inflammatory foods like salmon, vegetables, and fruits, and most of all, drink plenty of good o’l water. Small things, but can make a huge difference.

2. Sleep position - Avoid sleeping with your head flat, as it allows fluid to collect in the delicate eye tissues. While making sure your neck is getting proper support, sleep with your head slightly elevated to prevent fluid retention in your eye area. As you apply your eye gel before bedtime, use gentle, fingertip massage strokes to help distribute fluid around the eyes.

3. Contact lenses - these can cause swelling, irritation, and make you prone to eye irritation. For those needing vision correction, make sure that you are using the most comfortable lenses you can find. In addition, it would help if you follow your provider’s exact recommendations fro wear, cleansing, and disposal. Another helpful preventive step would be keeping your eyes well-lubricated at all times with the use of appropriate eye drops.

4. Allergies - exposure of the eyes to various allergens, either through the air or by rubbing your eyes with allergen-laced fingers, can cause puffiness that lasts. Avoid touching the eye area, as rubbing increases inflammation and pulls the skin - which results to sagging - all of which makes puffiness worse. If you are experiencing an allergy of sorts, consult with your physician about taking anti-allergy eye drops or an antihistamine to control your symptoms, which oftentimes include itchy, runny eyes. Applying a cool compress can do wonders too.

5. Makeup residue - when left overnight, makeup can cause irritation, which sure leads to puffy eyes! Make it a point to remove your makeup meticulously every night. Begin by using a fragrance-free and mild cleanser, then remove all the traces of makeup with a gentle make-up remover. Be sure not to pull or rub the skin around your eyes!

6. Dry skin - yes, dryness around the eye area can contribute to swelling and make them appear tired and wrinkled. A well-formulated moisturizer like YEOUTH’s L22 Anti-Aging Moisturizer can make a remarkable difference. After application, massage the eye area with YEOUTH’s Radiance Eye Gel. Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid and Tripeptide which lifts and nourishes the eye area, you will surely wake up with refreshed eyes the following day. Don’t forget to put sunblock with SPF 25 or more during the day, rain or shine!

7. Irritants - exposure to various irritants will no doubt contribute to eye puffiness. Make sure that your skincare products or makeup (especially the ones you use on the eye area) do not contain irritants in any form. Avoid ingredients such as camphor, menthol, alcohol, or any kind of fragrance.

8. Crying - Did you just watch a tearjerker? Going through a rough patch? Puffiness is a direct result of crying. Why? The act of crying causes inflammation around the eye area. That irritation, coupled with the natural tendency to wipe and rub the eyes during the physical act of crying leads to puffiness. Just keep in mind that the longer you cry, the worse the puffiness will be.

9. Fat pads - there are some who have puffy eyes because of genetics. Normally, this is due to very large fat pads around the eyes or because the fat pads have pouched through the facial muscles and start to sag over time - typically called undereye bags. If such is the case, this can be successfully removed through cosmetic surgery.

10. Sun damage - yes, we can name a lot of reasons why you need to be extra diligent about protecting your skin from sun damage. It causes loss of skin elasticity, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentataion. If you have puffy eyes, take extra precaution, as your eye area is more prone to the negative impact of unprotected sun exposure. Sun damage causes skin to lose its elasticity, which in turn lets more fluid to accumulate around the eyes. Be sure to apply sunscreen on a daily basis.

Ingredients that help decrease puffiness around the eye area

The skin around your eyes is very delicate, in fact, it is ten times thinner than the rest of the skin on your face. This means that it ages 35 times faster, so it’s crucial that you give it some TLC. Luckily, today’s new breed of eye products come with potent ingredients to help remedy the common eye woes like fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, and hyperpigmentation. Here are the ingredients that you should look for when searching for the perfect eye product.

1. Tripeptides - these are the main building blocks of life and are found virtually in all your body’s tissues. Your body produces less of these as you age. Tripeptides are composed of a string of amino acids that are held together by bands of carbon and nitrogen. Proteins, the long amino acid chains, cannot penetrate your skin layers due to its huge molecular size, but tripeptides can, because they have a shorter chain length. Once inside your skin, these act as messengers that send out signals to your skin cell receptors, and tells them how to perform. They produce collagen, which has the power to lift skin.

2. Hyaluronic acid - we now know that dry skin contributes to puffiness. Hyaluronic acid has an exceptional ability to hold in moisture and by stimulating major components of skin cells to repair the building blocks of skin tissue. It is a water-attracting gel that works beautifully in skincare products, helping reduce the appearance of fine lines, crow’s feet, and wrinkles. With regular application of this essential hydrating ingredient, you will get visibly smoother, well-nourished skin.

3. Vitamin K – Mainly, vitamin K is responsible for preventing excessive bleeding in the body during an injury. To do this, vitamin K activates the blood-clotting proteins that can be found within the body. As a result, blood begins to coagulate or form clots rather than simply gush in its viscous state.

Given this, vitamin K has been known to be the best topical treatment for injuries. When it is applied on the skin, it penetrates deep into the pores of the skin, and works its magic on the damaged capillaries deep into the dermis.

The result? You have a skin that is able to quickly heal.

Posted on August 24, 2016 by Jane Young | 0 comments

Understanding the different skincare products, knowing how they work synergistically, their benefits to your skin, and the right order in which to use them can have a huge impact on your skin and is incredibly essential when choosing the best skincare regime for you. We have put together information to help you choose a Yeouth complete skincare routine, or so that you may custom-choose your own products based on your specific needs and what works best for you!

Your daily essentials

The following information contains key details on how each Yeouth product works, when’s the best time to apply them, what it does for your skin, and what results you can expect from each. With a complete beauty routine, some experimentation may be needed so you may find which method works best. Don’t worry, we’ll help you cut through the confusion and make sense of this!

1. Cleanser (Step 1)

What it does:

Rinsing your face is NOT washing. Choose a product that is gentle. A good cleanser will remove oil, debris, and makeup. Daytime cleansing, most especially is important. Our skin recovers overnight. This means that in the morning, excess emulsified sebum is present, and your skin will have more dead skin cells to slough off. This can’t be rinsed away with just water. You need a proper cleanser.

Why do you need it?

Washing your face with water alone is not sufficient to clean your face. Regular skin cleansing is essential to maintaining healthy skin. Our skin gets subjected to a lot of damaging factors like pollution and other irritants. daily washing will remove all the bacteria, viruses, pollutants, dead and old skin cells, and dirt. Cleansing also helps manage your skin’s PH levels, helping the skin maintain a good level of hydration. Furthermore, a clean face will allow products you use to work even better. Do this at least 2-3 times daily.

What can I expect?

With regular face washing, your skin will look and feel smoother, healthier, and ready to receive prime benefits from your facial regimen. Our skin ages daily, and the very simple act of facial washing is a wonderful way to mitigate the external factors linked to aging and stimulate the internal processes that combat aging. In addition, regular facial washing will help get rid of impurities to give your skin a fresh and radiant look. We don’t want our skin to be covered with a thick layer of dirt and grime, don’t we?
