Ingredient Spotlight: Hyaluronic Acid in Skincare

Everything you need to know about the most hydrating ingredient in the beauty market, Hyaluronic Acid! One of the most popular skincare ingredients today is Hyaluronic Acid. It is recognized as a hydrating ingredient that helps maintain the skin’s moisture levels.

What exactly is it and what good does it really do for the skin?

In this article, let’s dive in and get to know more about hyaluronic acid, the benefits of including it in your skincare routine and why many consider it to be the key to achieving ageless, radiant skin!

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan, is a carbohydrate molecule that is naturally present in many areas of our body. It can be found in our eyes, internal fluids, and connective tissues. However, approximately 50% of its total amount in the body is found in our skin.

This gel-like molecule is a moisture-binding ingredient that provides lubrication and works by helping the skin retain water to keep it plump and hydrated.

Collagen and hyaluronic acid

Along with collagen, hyaluronic acid plays an important role in keeping your skin healthy and youthful.

Collagen, the fibrous protein that supports the structure of our skin, needs hyaluronic acid and water to reinforce the walls of your skin cells.

These compounds go hand-in-hand to keep your skin looking supple and firm. The collagen maintains the cell structure while the hyaluronic acid holds the moisture. The result is supple, younger-looking skin.

Why do I need hyaluronic acid?

You might be wondering why on earth you may need hyaluronic acid if your body is already producing it for you.

The average human body has about 15 grams of hyaluronic acid. We lose about one-third of that amount on a daily basis.

We produce less hyaluronic acid as we age

However, as early as our 20s, the production of this molecule begins to decrease. The synthesis of hyaluronic acid takes a complex process and our aging bodies are not able to keep up. The metabolic power of our cells starts to decrease and produce less hyaluronic acid.

Exposure to environmental stressors such as harmful UV rays of the sun, tobacco smoke and pollution also decrease the amounts in the skin.

When this occurs, the telltale signs of aging become more and more apparent. Your skin cells will not be able to hold enough water and collagen deteriorates which results in saggy, wrinkly skin.

What are the skin benefits of hyaluronic acid?

The word ‘acid’ can sound like a harsh substance that you should not put on your skin but with hyaluronic acid, it is actually the complete opposite. It has tons of wonderful benefits and the following are reasons why it has gained so much attention in skincare.

1. Provides incredible moisture

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant. It acts like a magnet for moisture allowing skin to absorb it.

In fact, one hyaluronic acid molecule can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. That is one gram of hyaluronic acid absorbing up to six liters of water. Amazing, right?

What is even more impressive is that hyaluronic acid has the ability to balance the skin’s moisture levels without filling up the skin cells with too much water.

Hyaluronic acid’s superpower enables it to provide lasting moisture for our skin. This why everyone loves YEOUTH Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum. It provides intense hydration and can be layered with other products. Hyaluronic acid does not need a myriad of ingredients or fillers to be effective. One pump is enough to keep your skin smooth and supple for the entire day.

2. Reduces the appearance of wrinkles

Less hyaluronic acid in the skin results in more apparent signs of aging.

Using skincare with hyaluronic acid restores the skin’s moisture. It makes it more supple which in turn helps smooth out the fine lines and wrinkles. It is like transforming a dehydrated raisin into a plump grape!

When the skin is hydrated, skin cell production also increases which results in plumper, healthier skin cells.

3. Boosts skin protection

Dry skin is more vulnerable to damage and infections. You can protect it by regularly using skincare with hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid provides a rich moisture barrier that acts like armor with its skin-soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Its presence in our skin cells help it survive longer because it makes the epidermis thicker.

It also gives the skin antioxidant defenses against free radicals that we absorb from too much exposure to harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun, smoke, pollution and other environmental aggressors.

4. Helps speed up healing

Hyaluronic acid plays a very important role in our skin’s wound healing. When damage occurs in the skin surface, its concentrations in the area increases to help repair the injury.

It helps regulate inflammation and signals the body to build more blood vessels in the damaged area thereby helping the wound to heal faster. In fact, a lot of studies show that directly applying hyaluronic acid to wounds significantly reduced wound size and decreased the pain compared to those who did not receive any treatment at all.

This amazing molecule also has antibacterial properties. When applied to open wounds, hyaluronic acid minimizes the risk of infection and speeds up skin healing.

Is hyaluronic acid good for oily skin?

Whether you have dry, oily or combination skin, hyaluronic acid is perfect for your skin type. This is one of the best things about this amazing skincare ingredient!

It is obviously great for dry and aging skin because of its moisturizing and anti-aging properties but it is also perfect for oily complexions. Its lightweight formulation will not clog pores yet still provides the skin with much needed moisture.

It is also perfect for people who have sensitive and blemish-prone skin as it can help calm the skin while protecting it with its antioxidant properties. It can also be used safely during pregnancy.

Which hyaluronic acid product is best for my skin?

Plastic surgeons often inject hyaluronic acid fillers into problem areas on the face to plump up the skin, but you do not need to take a trip to the doctor’s office to reap the many wonderful skin benefits of hyaluronic acid. A quality serum or moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid is more than enough to supply your skin the hydration it needs.

If you are a beginner when it comes to hyaluronic acid, it is recommended that you test it out first and start slowly by applying it only once per day.

See how your skin reacts and if you do not experience any negative reactions, continue use and add it into your morning and night skincare routines.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Serums are best when it comes to experiencing the full potential of an ingredient since they have a more potent concentration and have a thinner consistency. Let it absorb into the skin completely before moving onto the next step of your skincare routine.
Pro Tip: Vitamin C works great with Hyaluronic Acid to fight the signs of aging. These two work synergistically to boost collagen production, get rid of dark spots and diminish unwanted wrinkles and fine lines!

Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer

Pack extra hydration into your skin and ensure that you are moisturized to the max by using a moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid. The hydrating properties of hyaluronic acid will keep your skin supple and firm. Double up on the benefits by using a serum and a lotion that contains hyaluronic acid! Try our YEOUTH Hyaluronic Acid Cream known to plump, moisturize and repair skin.

Give hyaluronic acid a try and have healthy, youthful skin that you will love!

I bought the 3 pack when it was on sale, buy 2 get 1 free, and I feel my skin definitely shows improvement.
I’m almost done with my 2nd bottles and I gave my friend the 3rd.
She hasn’t even tried it yet because she said she thinks I give her things I don’t like. (?)
Kind of funny because not only is she wrong, she is always commenting on how nice my skin looks everytime she sees me and I tell her why and what I use!
I could order some more but not until I take back and use, the 3rd bottles of the 3 set, from my friend.
