4 Tips to Revitalize Aging Skin

Aging takes its toll on our body, especially on the skin, but no need to worry! You can still turn back the hands of time. Just follow these tips, get the right skincare products and regain that youthful, beautiful skin you once had!

YOUTHFUL SKIN TIP #1: Never forget the sunscreen!

The first and most critical step in your journey to having visibly younger skin is sunscreen. This amazing skincare product will help protect you from the harmful UV rays of the sun — the main culprit for our skin aging problems.

Be sure to always use sunscreen that is rated SPF 30 or higher to combat skin problems that will leave you looking a lot older than you really are. When used along with other sun protection measures, sunscreen also reduces the risk of skin cancer and other skin damage caused by the sun to our skin.

Think of this super helpful skincare product as a barrier that will shield you from all the harmful effects of the sun!

Confused when it comes to sunscreen? The following Q&As will teach you the basics of this must-have product.

How much should I apply?

Some products say that you should apply “liberally” but to what extent does “liberal application” mean? Others prescribe proportioned amounts (a shot glass full for the body and about half a teaspoon for the face) but we don’t think that makes sense because essentially not everyone has the same body or face size. The amount of sunscreen will depend on the amount of skin exposed to daylight and not everyone has the same skin surface area.

This is why we believe the best way to ensure you’re applying the right amount of sunscreen is to massage an ample layer over the areas of skin that will be exposed to daylight over the course of your day. Should you plan on spending most of the day out in the sun, add an extra thinner layer for added protection.

How often should I apply?

To determine this, first, we should discuss SPF ratings. These ratings measure the amount of time (in minutes) your skin can be exposed to the sun before it shifts into a darker tone, which is the visible sign of skin damage. Let’s say that your bare unprotected skin gets darker after 10 minutes of exposure to the sun. If you apply sunscreen with an SPF 30 rating, it would protect you for 10 x 30, which is 300 minutes. This is 5 hours of protection and take note that this does not count the time indoors when your skin isn’t exposed to sunlight.

With this example, we can say that applying SPF 30 sunscreen each morning will be enough to keep you protected for a normal day spent indoors. However, spending the day outdoors in direct sunlight calls for more application of sunscreen or using one with a really high SPF rating to constantly ensure you are protected from the harmful rays of the sun.

How should I layer my sunscreen?

To give you the best protection against the evils of UV rays, we advise you use and layer skin products that all have SPF ratings. You can use a moisturizer, primer, foundation and a finishing powder all with SPF ratings! These will give you extra shields ensuring you will not be facing the consequences of spending extra time out in the sun.

YOUTHFUL SKIN TIP #2: Choose Anti-aging Ingredients

Renew your skin with products that are loaded with potent anti-aging ingredients. Check the list at the back of your skincare products’ and make sure they are packed with the following to give you youthful, glowing skin you would want to achieve.

Vitamin C - a nutrient that is vital to skin health, Vitamin C effectively protects the skin from free radicals, reviving aged and sun-damaged skin. Research also shows it effectively reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Green Tea - has superb antioxidant and anti-aging benefits that can help delay the signs of aging such as  sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. Green tea is also loaded with polyphenols which help neutralize damaging free radicals, those pesky molecules that cause significant skin damage and accelerates the skin’s aging process.

Retinol - an extremely effective skin-transforming ingredient that understands what your skin needs. Backed up by hoards of scientific studies, Retinol speeds up skin cell turnover, boosts collagen production, evens out skin tone, and helps with hyperpigmentation. An extremely powerful ingredient when it comes to anti-aging.

Peptides - are chains of amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins in the skin. Applied topically, peptides send a signal to our skin to prompt new formation of collagen, which in turn gives the feel and appearance of more youthful, supple skin.

Hyaluronic Acid - able to hold up to 1000 times its molecular weight in water, hyaluronic acid penetrates the skin and binds skin cells to water, infusing all layers of the skin with valuable, rejuvenating moisture. This is why topical application of Hyaluronic Acid is essential for maturing skin. The remarkable compound has a unique ability to even out and plump wrinkles, holding in moisture and resulting in softer, more elastic skin.

YOUTHFUL SKIN TIP #3: Avoid Fragrances

Products that smell nice are not necessarily nice to your skin. Skincare products that contain fragrances can be problematic as they can cause a sensitized reaction to the skin.

The same goes for ingredients such as denatured alcohol, lemon, citrus, and eucalyptus since they cause a cool tingling sensation to the skin. Products that contain them will make you think they’re working, but in reality, your skin is actually telling you it’s irritated. Although you may not experience tingling or redness, they ‘silently’ cause cumulative problems that are bad for your skin.

YOUTHFUL SKIN TIP #4: Use Chemical Exfoliants

If you exfoliate your skin with face scrubs that are claiming to give you soft and flawless skin, you need to stop and think twice. Contrary to what they seem, most of these scrubs are abrasive and harsh to the skin so using them will only aggravate your skin condition.

Imagine the rough grains and ground-up nuts in them that harshly file down your skin. Yikes! Plus, those that contain 'microbeads’ that are made of plastics completely end up washing down the drain and polluting our oceans. A big no-no!

Try YEOUTH’S 30% Gycolic Acid Gel Peel

Instead of face scrubs, truly achieve glowing, healthy skin with a quality AHA or BHA exfoliant. This is a major skincare step you should not overlook. There is no better way to get rid of dead skin naturally, banish dullness and improve the look of wrinkles, pores and skin tone other than these chemical exfoliants. Make sure to have them in your skincare routine to effectively aid in renewing skin.
