The first and most critical step in your journey to having visibly younger skin is sunscreen. This amazing skincare product will help protect you from the harmful UV rays of the sun — the main culprit for our skin aging problems.
Be sure to always use sunscreen that is rated SPF 30 or higher to combat skin problems that will leave you looking a lot older than you really are. When used along with other sun protection measures, sunscreen also reduces the risk of skin cancer and other skin damage caused by the sun to our skin.
Think of this super helpful skincare product as a barrier that will shield you from all the harmful effects of the sun! Confused when it comes to sunscreen? The following Q&As will teach you the basics of this must-have product.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I APPLY?
Some products say that one should apply “liberally” but to what extent does “liberal application” mean? Others prescribe proportioned amounts (a shot glass full for the body and about half a teaspoon for the face) but not everyone has the same body or face size. The amount of sunscreen will depend on the amount of skin exposed to daylight and not everyone has the same skin surface area.
The best way to ensure you’re applying the right amount of sunscreen is to massage an ample layer over the areas of skin that will be exposed to daylight over the course of your day. Should you plan on spending most of the day out in the sun, add an extra thinner layer for added protection.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I APPLY?
It will be based on various SPF ratings. These ratings measure the amount of time (in minutes) your skin can be exposed to the sun before it shifts into a darker tone, which is the visible sign of skin damage. Bare unprotected skin usually gets darker after 10 minutes of exposure to the sun. If you apply sunscreen with an SPF 30 rating, it would protect you for 10 x 30, which is 300 minutes. This is 5 hours of protection and take note that this does not count the time indoors when your skin isn’t exposed to sunlight.
With this example, applying SPF 30 sunscreen each morning will be enough to keep you protected for a normal day spent indoors. However, spending the day outdoors in direct sunlight calls for more application of sunscreen or using one with a really high SPF rating to constantly ensure you are protected from the harmful rays of the sun.
HOW SHOULD I LAYER MY SUNSCREEN?

Products that smell nice are not necessarily nice to your skin. Skincare products that contain fragrances can be problematic as they can cause a sensitized reaction to the skin.
The same goes for ingredients such as denatured alcohol, lemon, citrus, and eucalyptus since they cause a cool tingling sensation to the skin. Products that contain them will make you think they’re working, but in reality, your skin is actually telling you it’s irritated. Although you may not experience tingling or redness, they ‘silently’ cause cumulative problems that are bad for your skin.
If you exfoliate your skin with face scrubs that are claiming to give you soft and flawless skin, you need to stop and think twice. Contrary to what they seem, most of these scrubs are abrasive and harsh to the skin so using them will only aggravate your skin condition.
Imagine the rough grains and ground-up nuts in them that harshly file down your skin. Plus, those that contain 'microbeads’ that are made of plastics completely end up washing down the drain and polluting our oceans. A big no-no!
Instead of face scrubs, truly achieve glowing, healthy skin with a quality AHA or BHA exfoliant. This is a major skincare step you should not overlook. There is no better way to get rid of dead skin naturally, banish dullness and improve the look of wrinkles, pores and skin tone other than these chemical exfoliants. Make sure to have them in your skincare routine to effectively aid in renewing skin.

A pH or Potential of Hydrogen, is the level of concentration of hydrogen ions contained in a substance. It is the measurement of acid and alkaline ranging from 0 (most acidic) to 14 (most alkaline).
When it comes to our skin, it is healthiest when there is a balance of acid and alkaline levels. The skin becomes unhealthy and suffers damage when these levels go off balance! It becomes extremely dry or oily resulting in the development of skin conditions like acne, and premature signs of skin aging like wrinkles and fine lines.

Fine lines and wrinkles are the most common signs of skin aging. They are caused by a lot of different factors and they start to appear in our 20s or 30s. They often develop and appear on the forehead, the sides of the eyes and mouth and become more visible as we age.
What makes fine lines different from wrinkles? And what can we do to prevent, treat and make them go away?
